Threat Quality Press

This is probably going to end up provoking some new kind of incident, but there are days when I just can’t help myself.  Here is Roissy, a DC proponent of “Pick-Up Artistry,” which is when you measure your value as a man according to how many women you have sex with.

See this?  This is exactly the shit that I was talking about, this idea that the point of masculinity is to indulge in douchebaggery, rather than to rise above it.

What I think is ironic about it is the general tone that suggests that he’s exposing the truth about culture, or that his site is a place “where pretty lies perish.”  That he’s doing something new and valuable, exposing the seedy underbelly that seethes at the root of human civilization.  Which is all well and retarded–we know that we can behave like animals sometimes.  That’s why we invented civilization.

I don’t know.  I think there’s something deeply contradictory in the very nature of Roissy’s line.  He’s come up with this complex system of rating yourself, of rating your partner, of keeping score.  Trying to show who the alphas are, who the betas are (not that it even applies; those are pack terminology, not social primate terminology), who is better, who is stronger, who’s got more power.

What kind of a person spends all his time trying to show how much power he has?

I’m not sure whether or not the answer to it is obvious, so let me just say this.  It’s not scoring badly that makes a person weak.  It’s needing to keep score.
