Here is an interview with Elizabeth Nunez. She makes a point that’s a common one, and actually common to a number of different demographics: that publishers believe that black people only want to read books written by black people. Publishers do seem to believe that! They also think that white people only want to read books written by white people, women only want to read books written by women, men only want to read books written by men, &c. &c. &c.
To put this nonsense to bed once and for all, I propose this: from here forward, all authors shall be required to adopt outlandish pseudonyms, and all authors’ photos have to be replaced with pictures of famous cartoon characters.
