Your Comic-Con Friday Minute

As I’ve said before, I’m frankly exhausted by Comicon. It feels less an event than a three-day living press-release, and any sense that comic books are the main thrust feels long lost. It’s hard to get a lot of people excited about 10 new Captain America and Thor comics when OOOH LOOKY IT’S ANGELINA JOLIE AND SHE’S PUTTING UP WITH US EVERYONE RUN OVER HERE NOW!

That said, I care about 10 new Captain America comics, so yes,  I still pay attention to the announcements. And yes, sometimes something pretty goddamn cool happens.

Like this counterprotest to the Westboro Baptist Church’s ill-advised “God Hates Comics Fans (Or Whoever It Is You People Are)” protest. Well done, guys. All Glory to Hypno-Toad, indeed.

Let’s see, what else…?

– Mark Waid’s writing a new Captain America mini-series

– 100% Official Now, Joss Whedon’s doing the Avengers movie

– Everyone seems to continue loving Scott Pilgrim in all its forms

– Oh yeah here’s Thor’s Helmet:

(I gotta admit I’m getting pretty jazzed about the Thor movie. It’s starting to look like the Queen Flash Gordon and Highlander soundtracks smashed into someone’s awesome van-art.)

More tomorrow.
