Is apparently made by hilarious idiots?  In the first place, the best way to submit a text for conversion is as a web page.  Which, you know, makes sense, in its way, though it’d be nice if it said that somewhere on the DTP website.

But equally hilarious is the fact that, even when you submit it as a web page, their “conversion process” still takes out tabs, spaces, switches sentences around, removes headings, all apparently at random.

It turns out that the REAL best way to do it is to have Smashwords convert it into a Kindle file first, and then, once someone else has already done the work of conversion, only THEN submitting it to Amazon.  Which still puts it through a “conversion process”, but hopefully isn’t making it look like shit?

It’s hard to tell, because the preview function doesn’t actually show you what the book is going to look like one someone’s Kindle.

Anyway.  New version out to the Kindle; in theory, it ought to correct any formatting problems if you’ve already bought it.  As usual, if it doesn’t, email threatquality (at) gmail (dot) com, and I can just send you the damn thing, because I HAVE IT, and it’s LEGIBLE, it’s just that Amazon’s system is run by idiots.

Alternately, you can get a good Kindle version of Mr. Stitch or The Translated Man and Other Stories here at Smashwords.

It’s almost — almost — not fair to call Andy Schlafly a “conservative,” on the grounds that he should really be understood as just a crazy idiot who’s found a means to collect the crazy, idiotic idea of other crazy idiots together so they can all build on each other in a huge, hilarious circle jerk of crazy idiocy.

But he self-identifies as a conservative, he runs the “Conservapedia“, which the Republican establishment seems to like, and he’s not editing all of those articles himself. So, sorry Conservatives. You need to refudiate that fucker.

This, by the way, is also the cat working on the Open-Source Bible which…I mean, I’m no Biblical fundamentalist, but if you’ve presumably got the literal Word of God in your hands, isn’t that the opposite of the sort of thing you want to open-source?

I was at the comics store in King of Prussia, looking at comic books while I waited for Verizon to fix my superphone.  While I was there, I overheard a conversation between the clerk and, I presume, another customer, about why they were less than enthusiastic about the idea of gay marriage.

This was a revelation for me, I suppose because I tend to assume that people who like the things I like are basically the same as I am.  This was false, and I found myself compelled to get involved.

columnistspragerThere’s a fellow named Dennis Prager, who’s written a couple columns at that festering sewer and embarrassment to erudition known as Town Hall.  I’m not going to link to the articles [UPDATE: yes, I will], but I will link to a couple of devastating deconstructions of them here and here, at Jezebel.  Dennis Prager is a symptom of a problem that I would like to address, because it really pisses me off.

What is the modern man?

christian-persecution2I get this thing on the internets for OneNewsNow.  I’m not sure why; I think I probably signed up for it when I signed up for the American Family Association newsletter.  The guys behind both of these organizations are conservative, evangelical idiots; I signed up for their newsletter anyway, because I like to know what they’re up to (mostly:  hating gays, fighting the War on Christmas).

Anyway, I don’t really know what the hell OneNewsNow is, precisely, but I discovered that it prominently features my good friend David Limbaugh.  They sent me an article today about moral relativism, and I thought it was interesting and would like to talk about it.
